Re-training for a New Career

Large numbers of people of all ages and backgrounds are looking to retrain in a new area. With the financial crisis still affecting many companies, no-one’s job is safe and so lots of people are seeking a new career. With this in mind many training providers are offering great deals to prospective clients wanting to start afresh or wishing to complement their current skills. The task of finding a new job or new career is far better now than ever before.

With everyone clamouring for your money, it is a fantastic time to negotiate for the best price and the best deal for developing your career with some additional training courses.

Decide what you would like to do with your career – do you wish to stay in the same area but just add some new skills to your portfolio? Or, so you want to try something completely different? There are so many more job opportunities now – much more than when I was looking for a job. The choice is up to you, and the learning options available are vast:

Classroom Training – where you attend a full or part-time course taught by an instructor.

Computer Based Training – where you study at your own time and pace with the use of a computer by online training or CD-ROM or DVD Training.

Correspondence or Distance Learning Courses – using printed courseware and reference books and study guides.

See which study option suits you best and then see which courses are available. The training company you select to work with will help you find exactly the right training courses you need for that new career. They will assist in identifying your current skills and pinpoint areas for further development dependent on your goal criteria – whether it is to be a new job or developing a new skill or complementing your current skills.

It is always better if you make a list of your current skills and areas for improvement yourself, prior to meeting with the training provider. To do this, look at your current role and see what your strengths are – basically what you are good at. Also, identify areas of weakness or that you would like to improve. If you are in a company where formal appraisals are carried out, you can look at your past completed appraisals forms to help with making a list.

Once you have chosen your training course, stay focussed and determined. Complete your course to the best of your ability and ensure you have added an important new skill to your portfolio.

With some certification courses you will need to sit an exam. Make sure you practice enough and are prepared for the exam. These new skills you will have obtained will certainly be of interest to either your current or future employer. So go head and get ahead of the competition – take a new course and revitalise your life with a new career.
